Al-Furqaan Foundation: Spreading the Light of the Quran Through Dawah, Education, and Service
When the Al-Furqaan Foundation was established in 2003, it was born from both urgency and faith. As its founder, Wajahat Sayeed, reflected, Muslims at the time “felt a pressing need to respond—not defensively, but with clarity and truth.” The early 2000s were marked by widespread misinformation about Islam, and Al-Furqaan’s response was to go straight to the source of guidance: The Quran itself.
Inspired by two powerful verses—“So do not yield to the disbelievers, but strive diligently against them with this Quran” (25:52, Surah Al-Furqaan – The Criterion) and “Let there be a group among you who call others to goodness, encourage what is good, and forbid what is evil—it is they who will be successful” (3:104, Surah Aal-Imran – The Family of Imran)—Sayeed envisioned an organization that would carry the Quran’s message into every corner of American society.
From that vision emerged Al-Furqaan Foundation, a pioneering effort dedicated to fulfilling what it calls “the Rights of The Quran”: to believe it, recite it, understand it, act upon it, and convey it. More than 20 years later, the Foundation stands as one of the nation’s leading grassroots organizations in dawah, education, and service—striving to promote understanding, compassion, and societal harmony while remaining deeply anchored in Quranic principles.
A Mission of Multiplying Good
Al-Furqaan Foundation’s work now extends across more than a dozen divisions under three primary verticals: Dawah Projects, Educational Projects, and Service Projects. Each is united by a singular purpose—to make the message of the Quran accessible to everyone.
Its Dawah Projects include transformative initiatives such as The Furqaan Project, The Clear Islam, Islam in Prison, Dawah in Spanish, Dawah in Braille, The New Muslim Foundation, and The Furqaan Dawah Center. Collectively, these efforts have distributed nearly five million Quran translations across libraries, hospitals, prisons, and directly to individuals seeking to learn about Islam. “By Allah’s command,” the organization notes, “these humble efforts have led to countless shahadas,” connecting hearts to the message of divine truth.
The Educational Projects extend the Foundation’s reach into classrooms and homes. Furqaan Academy Bolingbrook, Furqaan Academy Online, and the newly launched Furqaan Academy for Exceptional Children serve learners from diverse backgrounds. The latter, established in 2025, holds the distinction of being the first Islamic school for Muslim children with special needs in the United States—an inspiring reflection of Al-Furqaan’s commitment to inclusion and accessibility.
Beyond the classroom, Furqaan Bookstore and The Clear Publishing — publishers of The Clear Quran® Series—provide authentic, accessible resources for individuals, schools, and institutions around the world.
What Makes Al-Furqaan Stand Apart
What sets Al-Furqaan Foundation apart is its relentless focus on accessibility. “We believe absolutely everyone should have access to the beautiful message of The Quran,” the team affirms. That conviction drives not only their translation and distribution projects but also their specialized outreach for communities often overlooked—those in prisons, Spanish-speaking audiences, the blind, and new Muslims.
Through Dawah in Braille, the Foundation has made Quranic texts available to the visually impaired, while Islam in Prison has distributed thousands of Qurans and Islamic resources to incarcerated individuals nationwide. At the same time, The New Muslim Foundation offers a compassionate bridge for new Muslims to transition into faith life with guidance, mentorship, and community.
The Foundation’s holistic approach—spanning dawah, education, and service—makes it unique among its peers. Through its Masjid Furqaan locations, Furqaan Recycling, and Furqaan Studios, the organization continues to find creative ways to embody the Quran’s message of mercy and service.
Living the Quran in Every Endeavor
Al-Furqaan Foundation’s work culture is as mission-driven as its programs. Every team member, volunteer, and leader operates under the understanding that their work is ibadah—an act of worship. As the organization explains, “Our projects are all dedicated to fulfilling the 5 rights of The Quran upon every Muslim: Believe It, Recite It, Understand It, Act Upon It, Convey It.” This alignment transforms professional roles into spiritual commitments, cultivating an environment where service, sincerity, and humility define success.
A Vision for the Future
Looking ahead, Al-Furqaan Foundation aspires to expand its dawah outreach to English-speaking communities across the globe and to strengthen its educational institutions to nurture confident, faithful Muslim leaders. Through the New Muslim Foundation, the organization aims to ensure that every person entering Islam finds “a safe space to share their challenges and to learn without judgment.”
At the same time, it seeks to help masajid and community centers create more inclusive environments for converts and learners. In every endeavor, Al-Furqaan Foundation strives to fulfill its founding prayer: that Allah (SWT) accept their humble service and make the Quran a source of guidance and unity for all humanity.
