Description

In this course, teachers will learn how to design, build, and deliver their courses in an unpredictable setting that toggles between virtual and face to face teaching and learning.

In WEEK 1, teachers will be introduced to the standards and principles for course designing, building, and teacher competency in hybrid learning environments.   They will do a self assessment and understand how friction can be avoided in an online environment.  In addition, teachers will be introduced to backwards planning and how to write cohesive course master competencies.

In WEEK 2, teachers will use the master competencies to write their course maps.  Having finished the design element of hybrid courses, teachers will then start thinking about how they will build their course in their school’s LMS.  We will explore how to introduce new material in an online format, how to assess online, and how to reflect.  At the end of week 2, teachers will be responsible for submitting their course maps and first Units of their courses to their admin.

In WEEK 3, we will turn to the teacher competency standards and delve into how teachers can deliver an online course.  We will explore how teachers can create a safe environment for their students within their course, looking at Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.  We will explore with teachers various ways to build a strong student-teacher relationship by creatively onboarding students at the beginning of the year.

Format of the Course

Teachers will be guided through a 3 week asynchronous online course. This means there will be no live class sessions. The course will be class paced with both content-driven and engagement-driven tasks.  Each week, one module will be released. Participants will spend approximately 4 to 5 hours a week completing necessary tasks for the course.

Participants who submit all course work on time will receive a course certificate that can be used for continuing education.  Throughout the course, teachers will collaborate with each other through discussion boards and short videos.

Cost

$99- Per Registrant for Member Schools

$149- Per Registrant Non Member Schools

For schools who register their entire staff, ISLA will provide two 30 minute 1-1 sessions with the course facilitator to provide helpful answers to questions that might arise during and after the course.
