Description:

Reporting to the Curriculum Director, the Curriculum Coordinator is responsible for defining a baseline for Islamic literacy around which our team will create supplemental curricula. The coordinator will supervise the lesson plan development in addition to providing guidance for improvement and assessment.

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose the educational needs for varying levels (e.g. middle school, high school)
  • Formulate objectives and review standards
  • Identify essential content and/or gaps in knowledge
  • Structure content and organize learning experiences
  • Create formative and summative assessments
  • Ensure alignment of standards, instructional strategies, and assessments
  • Determine evaluation methods to assess curricula
  • Manage multiple projects, with the ability to switch from one to the other seamlessly
  • Meet and collaborate with the Curriculum Director and other members of the team to discuss and clarify the direction of curriculum development
  • Present updates to the team for discussion and approval
  • Regularly attend briefs, group meetings, status meetings, and presentations where appropriate
  • Review and recommend external education materials to be used as prerequisites where needed
  • Develop procedures for teachers to implement curriculum
  • Provide recommendations, modifications, and edits to the curriculum
  • Analyze and design courseware and curriculum that can be delivered through various means and/or settings (e.g. classrooms, online training, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Minimum education required: Master’s degree in education and/or curriculum development
  • Extensive and intensive knowledge of the classical Islamic disciplines (e.g. uṣūl al-dīn, uṣul al-fiqh, ʿilm al-ḥadīth, etc.)
  • Extensive and intensive knowledge of the major discourses in the field of Islamic Studies as developed primarily by Western academia
  • Demonstrate the ability to critique and discuss his/her own work and the work of others in a constructive manner
  • Demonstrate an aptitude to present concepts and work
  • Must be able to analyze and organize Islamic academic research through working knowledge of the beliefs, values, and practices of Islam
  • Analytical skills to evaluate data and make recommendations for improvement in curriculum and teaching
  • Effective writing skills
  • Creativity — able to think of new ways to engage students
