Indiana Horizon Academy – Principal Position 

Indiana Horizon Academy (IHA), a full-time Islamic school located in Crown Point, IN, invites applications for the Principal position with a starting date of June 15, 2025. 

Supported by the Northwest Indiana Islamic Center, IHA opened its doors in August 2013 and is serving the Muslim community in Northwest Indiana. With three buildings distributed on two campuses, IHA serves ~200 students ranging from pre-k to 8th grade. 

The principal at Indiana Horizon Academy oversees the school’s day-to-day operations, ensuring academic excellence, upholding Islamic values, leading the faculty, managing student behavior, and fostering strong parent-school relationships, all while prioritizing a strong Islamic educational foundation within the curriculum and school culture. The principal shall be able to effectively interact with students, parents, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Supported by the school board and the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), the principal is expected to oversee the student recruitment, student retention, budgetary planning, fundraising, and governmental relations and reporting. The principal is also in charge of recruiting and hiring qualified school staff members, evaluating staff performance, and providing adequate professional development opportunities to enhance their effectiveness 

Key responsibilities include: 

Academic Leadership

• Implementing and monitoring a rigorous academic curriculum that aligns with Islamic principles and state standards 

• Evaluating teacher effectiveness and providing professional development opportunities 

• Monitoring student academic progress and implementing appropriate interventions where needed 

Continuously improving the processes to ensure smooth school operations with accountability and documentation 

School Culture and Islamic Values: 

• Fostering a positive and inclusive school climate that reflects Islamic values like respect, compassion, and integrity 

• Collaborating with the school’s Islamic scholars to ensure alignment with Islamic teachings 

• Addressing student disciplinary issues in accordance with Islamic principles 

Staff Management

• Recruiting, hiring, and retaining qualified teachers and staff 

• Providing ongoing support and mentorship to all staff members 

• Evaluating teacher performance based on both academic achievement and integration of Islamic values 

Setting clear expectations and ensuring follow-through on responsibilities 

• Proactively addressing concerns with fostering a culture of open communication, mutual respect, and shared solutions 

Parent Engagement

Building strong relationships with parents through regular communication and community events 

Encouraging parental involvement in the school and supporting their child’s Islamic education 

Administrative Duties: 

Create and maintain annual budget plans in coordination with the treasurer and accountant, ensuring all financial records and reporting sheets are accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with standard financial management guidelines. 

Ensure the school meets state health, safety, and reporting regulations (including State Food Programs). 

Consult with teachers, staff, and the school board to ensure alignment on strategic planning, major initiatives, and policy changes 

Maintain student records and compliance with state regulations & best practices. Required Qualifications: 

At least a bachelor’s degree in Education – a Graduate degree in Education Leadership or a related field is strongly preferred. 

Computer literacy, including proficiency in email communication, word processing, school management software, and Excel. 

Extensive previous experience in the classroom as a homeroom teacher 

• Deep understanding of Islamic principles and practices 

Excellent communication and mastery of the English language 

Demonstrated administrative and leadership skills
