On May 7, 2025, the Islamic Schools League of America (ISLA), in collaboration with Archangel, hosted a webinar titled “Digital Well-Being: Tech Balance for a Better Life.” This session, conducted by Samsung Education Coach Leticia Citizen, brought together educators, administrators, and community members to explore the intersection of technology use and well-being.
The facilitator used Nearpod and the chat to make for an engaging and interactive presentation.
Summary:
1. Emphasizing Digital Well-Being:
Underscoring the importance of digital well-being, highlighting how mindful technology use supports mental, physical, social, and emotional health. Leticia introduced the concept of “rings of responsibility,” encouraging participants to reflect on the impact of their digital actions on themselves, their communities, and the broader world.
2. Practical Strategies for Tech Balance:
Participants shared and learned about tools like Stay Focused and Forest to manage screen time. The emphasis was on setting specific, achievable goals to foster healthier tech habits among students and educators alike.
3. Tech Habit Challenge:
Leticia asked all attendees to reflect for a moment on their current top three values, and then ponder how their current tech usage relates to their values. Picking one habit to change, with small doable actions that can be built upon, and a “trick” to incentivize change.
4. Leveraging Free Educational Resources:
Leticia introduced Common Sense Education‘s platform, offering free resources on digital citizenship and well-being. Attendees were encouraged to utilize these materials to enhance their curricula and support students’ digital literacy.
