The goal of every teacher at the Falcon Academy is to inspire and nurture students to learn academic skills and subject matter that contribute to their development as mature, able, responsible, and knowledgeable young people. To promote this, teachers employ challenging curricula and set high standards of achievement and behavior for themselves and their students. The teacher will lead the planning and implementation of a cohesive and coordinated strategy that harnesses every available resource to optimize student learning and the quality of the student experience at Falcon Academy within the learning community. We are pursuing a full continuum school IB (International Baccalaureate) World School with a Diploma Program, Middle years Program, and Primary Years Program. The teacher will have classroom experience in a K-8th grade school setting, a keen interest in forwarding innovative teaching strategies that align with the vision for the school, and a passion for the unique mission of the Falcon Academy.
Falcon Academy teachers are expected to continue their professional growth by identifying specific goals and pursuing them throughout the year. These goals may include maintaining a valid teaching credential with standards equal to and/or greater than those of the states of Virginia or other nearby states. Teachers are also encouraged to pursue graduate studies in the field of education. Teachers are expected to attend professional seminars or workshops including school provided activities. The Academy strongly encourages membership in professional organizations and participation in professional enrichment opportunities.
The School Nurse is a key member of the school’s student wellbeing and safety team, responsible for promoting the physical and emotional health of all students and staff. The role involves providing first aid, managing chronic conditions, administering medications, and supporting the implementation of health policies. The School Nurse plays a proactive role in health education, disease prevention, and fostering a safe, inclusive school environment.
Reporting to the Principal and working collaboratively with the School Counselor, leadership team, and parents, the School Nurse ensures that health care practices within the school meet the highest standards of safety, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
- Health Services and Medical Care
- Provide first aid and emergency care to students and staff in accordance with school protocols.
- Assess and manage minor injuries and illnesses, referring to external medical care when necessary.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked school clinic.
- Medication Administration
- Safely store, document, and administer medications according to prescribed instructions and school policy.
- Ensure proper authorization for all medications administered at school.
- Monitor students for side effects or allergic reactions and communicate with families as needed.
- Health Monitoring and Record keeping
- Maintain up-to-date and confidential student health records, including immunization data, chronic conditions, and emergency contacts.
- Monitor students with chronic illnesses (e.g., diabetes, asthma, epilepsy) and develop care plans in coordination with parents and physicians.
- Report communicable diseases to relevant authorities in line with public health regulations.
- Health Promotion and Education
- Educate students, staff, and parents on hygiene, nutrition, wellness, and disease prevention.
- Support or lead health and wellness campaigns and school-wide health initiatives.
- Offer guidance on physical health concerns impacting learning, behavior, or attendance.
- Health and Safety Compliance
- Assist in the development and enforcement of school health policies and procedures.
- Support health-related aspects of the school’s safeguarding and emergency response plans.
- Conduct routine health checks and screenings as needed.
- Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with the leadership team, School Counselor, and teaching staff to support student wellbeing.
- Communicate promptly and sensitively with parents/guardians regarding health incidents or concerns.
- Liaise with external healthcare providers and community health resources when appropriate.
7. COVID-19 and Public Health Preparedness
- Monitor and implement up-to-date health protocols regarding infectious diseases.
- Support contact tracing, isolation policies, and community health reporting as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) or equivalent required
- Valid nursing license/certification in the country of employment
- Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience (pediatric or school experience preferred)
- CPR and First Aid certification (mandatory)
- Familiarity with child development, chronic illness management, and public health
- Strong record keeping and communication skills
- Discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism essential
