Summary of Data Security Presentation
During the data security presentation, the following best practices were emphasized to help protect student and staff information:
- Never enter identifying student or staff information into ChatGPT or other GPT-based tools.
- Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on all accounts whenever possible to add an extra layer of security.
- Practice good data hygiene: Hackers often exploit stored browser “cookies,” so clear them regularly.
- Avoid using public Wi-Fi without protection. If public Wi-Fi is necessary, use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to create a secure layer between your data and the network
(Recommended: vp.net). - Encrypt your hard drive so data remains protected if a device is lost or stolen.

For Linux users: LUKS is recommended for drive encryption.

Use shared drives wisely: Grant view-only access by default and provide edit access only when absolutely necessary.
