Position Overview

The Qur’an Teacher is responsible for cultivating a lifelong love of the Qur’an while teaching students to read, recite, memorize, and understand the words of Allah (SWT). Using the Bidaya Curriculum starting in Level 1, the teacher provides systematic instruction in Qur’anic reading and foundational tajweed while nurturing each student’s relationship with the Qur’an.

The ultimate goal is not only that students become proficient readers, but that they develop a sincere love for Allah (SWT), His Book, and the example of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, carrying these values throughout their lives.

Primary Responsibilities

Qur’an Instruction

  1. Develop students’ fluency in Qur’anic reading through structured instruction.
  2. Teach the Bidaya Curriculum with fidelity and consistency.
  3. Teach foundational tajweed appropriate for each grade level.
  4. Guide students in memorization according to school expectations.
  5. Differentiate instruction based on students’ reading levels and abilities.
  6. Monitor pronunciation and provide corrective feedback with patience and encouragement.
  7. Encourage daily review and consistent practice.

Spiritual Development

The Qur’an Teacher strives to help every student:

  1. Develop a deep love for Allah (SWT).
  2. Love reading and reciting the Qur’an.
  3. Appreciate the Qur’an as guidance for everyday life.
  4. Love and emulate Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who embodied the Qur’an.
  5. Build confidence in leading prayer, reciting Qur’an, and practicing Islamic etiquette.
  6. Develop respect for the Qur’an and proper manners when handling and reciting it.

Student Assessment

  1. Assess students regularly in:
  2. Letter recognition
  3. Reading fluency
  4. Tajweed application
  5. Memorization
  6. Retention
  7. Confidence in recitation
  8. Maintain accurate student progress records.
  9. Communicate progress and concerns with administration and families.
  10. Develop intervention plans for students needing additional support.

Instructional Practices

  1. Use engaging instructional strategies, including:
  2. Small-group instruction
  3. Partner reading
  4. Repetition and review
  5. Interactive games
  6. Visual supports
  7. Movement activities
  8. Positive reinforcement
  9. Differentiate instruction for students with varying learning styles and abilities.
  10. Foster a classroom atmosphere that encourages confidence, perseverance, and joy in learning the Qur’an.

Professional Responsibilities

  1. Participate in teacher evaluations and implement required recommendations, modifications, or corrective actions.
  2. Collaborate with classroom teachers to reinforce Qur’anic learning throughout the school day.
  3. Maintain respectful communication with administration, colleagues, and families.
  4. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding students, families, staff, and school operations.
  5. Participate in professional development related to Qur’an instruction, tajweed, and child development.
  6. Assist with lunch duty, recess supervision, drop-off, pick-up, assemblies, and school events.
  7. Support school fundraising initiatives and contribute positively to the overall school community.

Qualifications

  1. Strong tajweed knowledge; an ijazah or formal Qur’an teaching certification is preferred but not required.
  2. Demonstrated ability to teach Qur’anic reading using the Bidaya Curriculum or willingness to complete school-provided training.
  3. Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s degree, or equivalent degree from an accredited international institution preferred.
  4. Current college students may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  5. Commitment to modeling excellent Islamic character and professionalism.
  6. Quran teaching experience required.

  3. TB clearance.
  4. Degree verification.
  5. Professional reference checks.
  6. Authorization to work in the United States.
