~ Dr. Berthena Nabaa-McKinney ~

We at Islamic Schools League of America (ISLA) are pleased to announce our newest member to the team! Dr. Berthena Nabaa-McKinney has joined the ISLA board!
Dr. Berthena has 20+ years of educational experience in teaching, school administration, board leadership & development, accreditation, and professional development. She has served on and led accreditation teams in schools and school districts across the state of Tennessee.
She has private and public school leadership experience, having served as the principal of an Islamic school for six years and was most recently on the board of her public school district.
Dr. Berthena received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership & Professional Practice. As a school improvement and turnaround specialist, Dr. Berthena has been dedicated to working with schools and districts in the public and private school arena to reimagine equitable outcomes for students of color.
She serves on the board of the Muslim ARC, as a Commissioner for the Metro-Nashville Action Commission, Board Chair with Muslim American Cultural Center, Co-Chair of Women of Color for Education Equity, and continues to serve as a board member on several other important organizations.
Dr. Shaza Khan, ISLA’s Executive Director, states,
“We are thrilled to have Dr. Berthena join the ISLA Board! She brings such a broad array of experience and expertise to the organization. From her engagement in non-profits both large and small, to her interest on equity and inclusion, to her experience as a former Islamic school principal, we look forward to the many ways in which she will help ISLA empower Islamic school educators with the knowledge, resources and professional development needed to provide holistic education to our Muslim youth. We are so excited to learn and grow with her!”
