Position Overview
Al-Arqam Islamic School & College Preparatory seeks a compassionate, proactive, and skilled School Counselor to support students in grades 6–12. The counselor will provide guidance across academic, social-emotional, and behavioral domains, helping students achieve success while fostering strong Islamic character and personal growth.
The counselor serves as a key resource for students, parents, and faculty, supporting academic planning, social-emotional learning (SEL), and intervention for at-risk or special needs students.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support
- Provide one-on-one and small-group counseling to support academic success, emotional well-being, and personal development.
- Conduct regular check-ins with students, including at-risk students, those receiving academic interventions, or students with special needs.
- Facilitate Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) sessions and programs for middle and high school students.
- Monitor student progress and coordinate with teachers and administration to ensure appropriate support and intervention plans.
- Assist students with goal setting, study skills, time management, and coping strategies.
Academic Counseling
- Support students with academic planning and college preparation guidance.
- Collaborate with teachers and administration to identify students needing academic intervention.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, intervention plans, and outcomes.
- Provide resources and strategies to support learning differences, special needs, and English language learners as applicable.
Staff Support & Consultation
- Serve as a resource to faculty and staff regarding student behavior, SEL strategies, classroom management, and intervention techniques.
- Participate in faculty meetings, student support teams, and professional development sessions.
- Collaborate with administration on schoolwide SEL programs and initiatives.
Parent & Community Engagement
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and support plans.
- Provide guidance on strategies for academic success and social-emotional well-being at home.
- Foster a strong partnership between the school, families, and community resources.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in School Counseling, Educational Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
- Valid counseling certification/license preferred.
- Experience in secondary school counseling (grades 6–12) preferred.
- Strong knowledge of academic support, social-emotional development, and intervention strategies.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to the mission and values of an Islamic educational environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with at-risk students, special education, or intervention programs.
- Familiarity with SEL frameworks and programming.
- Knowledge of college preparation processes and academic advising.
- Experience in an Islamic or faith-based school environment.
Work Expectations
