School Counselor Job Description

Al-Hidaya Learning is seeking a counselor to work in our after school/weekend school program on a part-time basis or as needed. Students in our learning program face many social, emotional, cultural, and behavioral challenges. Issues of depression, identity, self-esteem, belief, social life, and other behavioral support is needed to address the growing concern in our community. Part of our program is to address the social-emotional growth in our community and create a support system that is understanding and conducive of their needs.  School counselors will create nurturing relationships with students that enhance academic achievement and personal success as globally productive citizens.

Time Commitment: Part -Time or as needed Position

Compensation: Commensurate With Experience 


  • Listen to students concerns about academic, emotional, and social problems 
  • Help students overcome their fears, concerns, or other issues
  • Assist with conflict resolution between students and parents, or teachers and students
  • Responds to crises affecting students or faculty
  • Collaborate with staff and parents to address the needs of the student
  • Provide mental and behavioral counseling to students
  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions
  • Identify academic struggles, or behavioral problems and meet with parents
  • Create a plan or set goals for students to help them achieve their academic goals
  • Be able to identify verbal or physical abuse and approach parents or proper authorities in regards to it
  • Give workshops on bullying, drug abuse, depression, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with all school staff to create a positive learning community
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior
  • Create an environment that is inviting, respectful, supportive, inclusive, and flexible


  • Masters in counseling (preferred) or equivalent experience
  • Sound knowledge of Islamic principles, morals, and values
  • Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Confident interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Able to generate and maintain progress reports
  • Flexible hours
  • Dress according to Islamic principles
  • Needs to report directly to the AHCL president
  • Must have a strong understanding of Islamic etiquettes, manners, and appropriate behavior.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States
